From WHSmiths: A phenomenally popular vampire romance sequence from the best selling author of Night World, L. J. Smith. The Awakening: Elena Gilbert is used to getting what she wants and she wants mysterious new boy, Stefan. But Stefan is hiding a deadly secret - a secret that will change Elena's life for ever ...The Struggle: Elena is torn between her boyfriend, Stefan, and his brother, Damon. But these brothers hide dark secrets and a tragic past that threatens them all. Damon wants to lead Elena astray - and he'd rather kill Stefan than let him possess her ...

My Thoughts: Okay if im gonna be honest, i actualy prefer the TV show to the book (eek i know please dont hate me!) Its just the actors/resses give the character so much more personality that it seems to me that after seeing them, the book is quite a let down. Especially with Damon, he's was an absoloute babe in the TV series and then i came to read the books and the description/personna surrounding him just wasn't as entertaining. This could have something to do with the fact i saw the show before reading the books i dont know.

As well as this, i think the first two books are really slow. It seemed to me that there wasnt much storyline to them either like nothing was happening that was making me want to read on? Whereas in the show there was a lot more happening every episode it was a cliffhanger ending with so many possibilities of where they should go.

Im not denying that LJ Smiths original idea was amazing, but i think the TV series expanded on this idea and made it PHENOMENAL.

For me the book characters are boring and i dont really connect with them. I'm completley a team delena fan but damon needs to become more 'damony' with his sarcastic comments and grimmacing, innapropriate comments, the bitchy side we all love so much. And to put it plainly, stefan is just a bore and Elena is to serious.

Also, i didnt like the idea of Elena being turned into a vampire so early on in the series. I thought that was an EXTREME LETDOWN. The whole point of their relationship is protection and bonding together and i think once elena becomes a vampire the 'bond' isn't as  true.

Finally i really dont know what to this about them doing th whole drinking of each others blood type thing, i know its supposed to be romatic and all but i just do see it. Sorry to all those who adore the books these just werent my cup of tea. However i will continue reading them till the end because i cant start to read a series and not finish it.

My Rating: *
